DESCRIPTION:Attention Japanese Immersion Families! \nAs many of you know\, the school board is proposing to cut the high school immersion programs which would be a disservice to all our children’s education. This decision could be made as early as DECEMBER! So what can we do?! \nPlease attend our planning session on Monday\, 14 November\, 2022 at 6:30 at the Sand Lake library. At the meeting\, we intend to discuss how we can best mobilize and coordinate a response in support of the immersion programs. Other schools such as Government Hill and O’Malley have already met\, so let’s show our LION PRIDE (pun intended)! \nIf your unable to make it\, don’t fret\, here are other ways you can get involved – \n1) Email: Send emails NOW to the School Board Members and Superintendent Bryantt: individually or to all members \nat schoolboard@asdk12.org. \n2) Testify: We need your voice and your student’s voice to be heard. At previous meetings\, hearing directly from students proved to be a powerful influence. Please encourage your child to testify and please testify yourself. You must sign up to testify prior to 15 November\, but the number of speakers is limited. \n3) Attend: Show Immersion support by attending the 15 November School Board Meeting at 6:00pm. DESCRIPTION:Intern Potluck\nWe are hosting the intern welcome potluck on Wednesday\, September 19th at 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm at Sand Lake Multi-Purpose Room(MPR). \nOur interns spend almost as much time with your student as your Japanese classroom teacher. They bring another Japanese speaker to the classroom and are excited about going into the teaching profession when they return to Japan. They have chosen this internship because they want to experience Alaska and the American culture. Maybe talking with your intern\, your family will find a fun outing you can do together. \nI encourage you to take this opportunity to come and meet this outgoing and fantastic group of teachers. \nBring a dish\, learn about where they are from in Japan and enjoy the chance to hear your student talk to his/her intern in Japanese!
